The Carriage House Apartments are now called Chelsea Courtyards and it is known to ghost enthusiasts for its Apartment 40. Some say the apartment was used for storage since no one was able to cohabitate with the ghost. People have described poltergeist activity including things being thrown, blood dripping from walls, smell of rotting flesh, and decaying faces showing up in mirrors. Other stories say that Apartment 40 is in use, and that it is Apartment 42 that is haunted. A ghostly white cat has been seen on the premises and there is also said to be a short, elderly and kindly female spirit in the front office named Billie Boyd. She died in 1987 from cancer. In 2009, a woman who lived in Apartment 20 was killed in a fire in the middle of the night.
