FloridaHauntedHouses.com recently sat down with Alex Rodriguez of Fright Nights at the South Florida Fairgrounds, to discuss what's new at the haunted attraction for the 2019 Halloween Season!
What's new at Fright Nights at the South Florida Fairgrounds for 2019? Do you have any new rides, attractions, or special features that Haunt Seekers should know about?
We have a lot of new events happening this year - it’s going to be epic. We are beefing up our scare zones. One will be post apocalyptic and the other will be a creepy carnival. In addition, we have some new technology, we are going to feature: both Virtual Reality games and video game tournaments. We have also set up a stage in the queue line with a DJ and other local acts to entertain our Guests. We are also holding a Zombie Fun Run on the event grounds this year on October 11th. All this PLUS our midway rides, games, food and 4 haunted houses!
What are you most excited about for the 2019 Halloween Season?
We are very excited with our haunt lineup this year. We feel there is something for everyone. Diehard zombie fans will love Sunny Shores Hotel. Guests who like traditional monsters will be entertained by Dead Time Stories and El Orfanato. Plus, we are bringing back The Cuckoo’s Nest this year, so if clowns scare you - this is the haunt for you.
What differentiates Fright Nights at the South Florida Fairgrounds from other local haunts in Florida?
We care about the scare. We are really interested in giving our guests a unique experience, which means we try our best to keep groups small so they can enjoy an immersive experience.
How long has Fright Nights at the South Florida Fairgrounds been in business? Can you tell us a bit more about Fright Nights at the South Florida Fairgrounds's history?
We are in our 18th year. We started in some tents on the Fairgrounds and we have grown into a world class haunted attraction.
What's your favorite experience since opening Fright Nights at the South Florida Fairgrounds?
Overall: Seeing our actors grow with us, we have a dedicated group of scarers that come back each year making our event extra special.
How long is a typical haunt experience at Fright Nights at the South Florida Fairgrounds from start to finish?
Well, that depends. If you take your time to enjoy the scenery, it can take 15 minutes or more. But if you are RUNNING FOR YOUR LIFE, it will likely be under 10 minutes. So let's say 10.
On a scale from 1 to 10, how scary would you say Fright Nights at the South Florida Fairgrounds is? Why?
Of course, I want to say 10, because that is the absolute number one thing that we strive for here at Fright Nights. We believe it is what sets us apart from other haunted houses. Our experienced scare actors and haunt leaders are the key to our success.
Does Fright Nights at the South Florida Fairgrounds's property have any real haunted history? Do you have a spooky encounter you'd like to share?
The South Florida Fairgrounds hosts several haunted houses like the historic Riddle House. A former mortuary, it was featured on Ghost Adventures.
What inspired you to open up a haunted attraction? What's your favorite part of the business?
I have loved haunted houses since I was a child - the thrill of being scared. Now it’s my turn to be the scarer and it's fun to see the Guests reactions to your hard work.
How has new technology (i.e. animatronics, special props, etc) helped you to enhance Fright Nights at the South Florida Fairgrounds?
We are always looking to enhance our haunts with new tech. But at its heart, it is still the actors that can make or break your attraction.
